Tips for Surviving Black Friday 2019 in Las Vegas
If you’ve ever been to Las Vegas, you know Vegas is an incredible city for shopping. Whether you hit the shops on the Strip, head to one of our impressive outlets, or search out an amazing local shop, when you shop in Las Vegas, you’re sure to find yourself or a loved one something special. And, of course, since Las Vegas is a great place to shop all year round, it’s also a great place to shop on the biggest shopping day of the year: Black Friday!
If you’re planning on hitting the shops in Las Vegas this Black Friday, we have some tips that can help your experience go a whole lot more smoothly. Everyone knows that Black Friday can get a little crazy no matter where you are— and Vegas can definitely be extra hectic on Black Friday (especially on the Strip). But if you follow our top tips for surviving Black Friday 2019 in Las Vegas, you can snag some amazing deals while also avoiding the worst of the Black Friday chaos.
1. Black Friday Deals: Not Just On Friday
Black Friday, known for its amazing deals, has “Friday” in its name. But, luckily for those who don’t want to storm a Best Buy at 6 AM on Black Friday to get a deal, many stores have now expanded their Black Friday sales. Tons of stores now have incredible Black Friday sales all throughout Thanksgiving week and into the weekend.
Then, on top of that, plenty of stores also participate in Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. So if you want to score some Black Friday deals, you actually have more than a week to do your Black Friday shopping. Armed with this knowledge, you can plan your Black Friday shopping accordingly and spread it out to avoid the crowds on Friday itself (or, at least do as little of it as possible on Friday).
2. Make a Shopping List
Heading to a store on Black Friday without a plan is a recipe for disaster. If you go into a store with no idea of what you’re looking for, you’re going to spend a ton of time wandering around aimlessly looking for a deal or that perfect gift. You may happen upon something you want to buy, but there’s a high risk that you won’t find anything at all. Or, that you’ll buy something just because it’s a “deal,” even if you have no use for it.
So to avoid wasting time and money, think ahead and make a shopping list. Pretty much every store that has a Black Friday sale will announce their deals in advance. Browse these announcements online in the week before Black Friday and find exactly what you want to get, as well as where you need to go to get it. After you have your shopping list, make a plan for your Black Friday shopping so you can quickly go in a store, get what you need, and leave. This well help ensure you get all the items you want, while minimizing the time you spend in Black Friday craziness.
3. Understand What Black Friday on the Vegas Strip Will Be Like
People love shopping on the Las Vegas Strip every day of the year, including on Black Friday. But be warned: the Strip is going to be very hectic on Black Friday. There are lots of great stores on the Strip and people are going to be shopping all day and night trying to snag some deals. So, needless to say, the Las Vegas Strip (already a crowded place) is going to be extremely crowded on Black Friday.
With that said, this doesn’t mean that you can’t shop on the Strip on Black Friday. (If you do happen to be on the Strip, we encourage you to stop by our Essence Las Vegas Strip location to take advantage of our Black Friday deals!) It just means that you need to be aware that it’s going to be super crowded so you can mentally prepare yourself. If you don’t mind crowds, great! You’ll probably have a lot of fun shopping on the Strip on Black Friday. But if you’re the type of person who doesn’t like crowds, shopping on the Strip on Black Friday may not be for you.
4. Hit Some Non-Strip Options
While lots of people shop on the Strip on Black Friday, there are tons of other places you can shop when you’re in Vegas. And, often, you’ll find that the best Black Friday deals in Vegas are not on the Strip. A lot of the people (if not most of the people) who are shopping on the Strip on Black Friday are staying at a hotel on the Strip. So businesses there don’t necessarily need to draw crowds in with extra good deals.
So where can you get some amazing Black Friday deals off the Strip? Two fantastic options are either of the two Las Vegas Premium Outlets: Las Vegas Premium Outlets North and South. These outlet malls already have top name brand items that are marked down 25 to 65% off regular retail all year round. And then, on Black Friday, tons of these stores also so have some pretty incredible once-a-year deals.
5. Follow Your Favorite Stores on Social Media or Use Their Apps
There are hundreds of amazing deals each year on Black Friday. And one of the best ways you can find out about them is to just follow your favorite stores on social media. Stores will be heavily promoting their Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and/or Cyber Monday deals in the week or so leading up to the biggest shopping day of the year. So if you want to find out about their deals (which will help you decide what you want to buy in advance), give your favorite store a follow on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. Not only will you find out about their deals, you may also get extra deals. Often, stores will offer special coupon codes or promotions to their social media followers, which can make their Black Friday deals even sweeter.
Also, if you have a favorite store or shopping center that happens to have an app, we definitely recommend downloading it. Just like on social media, stores sometimes have app-exclusive coupons or promotions that can help you save even more when you shop with them around Black Friday.
6. Don’t Feel Pressure to Go to a Physical Store
If you really don’t like crowds but want to take advantage of Black Friday deals, hit those online deals! This tip isn’t necessarily Vegas-specific, of course. Anyone who wants to get a killer deal without dealing with killer crowds can use this tip. But it’s worth mentioning that just because you’re in Vegas (whether you live here or will be traveling here) on Black Friday, that doesn’t mean that you have to physically go out and shop in Vegas if you don’t want to. You can get tons of deals from the comfort of your home or hotel room and still make the most of your Black Friday.

7. Think Outside Just Tech and Clothing
Lastly, we’ll close with this tip: remember that Black Friday deals don’t just extend to tech products and clothing. While tech and clothing are some of the most purchased items each Black Friday, there are many other types of deals you can get on Black Friday weekend. For example, we know that many restaurants near our Strip location have had some great Black Friday discounts for people dining out on the Strip! Then, there are plenty of non-clothing and non-tech stores all across Vegas that will be having great deals on Black Friday, like hardware stores, book stores, and so much more. To make the most of your Black Friday, think about what you need or what you want to buy. And then do a little research the week before Black Friday. Chances are, you’ll find a store that has a deal on exactly what you need.
