Top 6 Cannabis Strains For Migraine Relief
Terrible pain. Nausea. Sensitivity to light and nose.
If you suffer from migraines, you already know how debilitating they can be.
For some people, over-the-counter pain medications, such as ibuprofen or Tylenol, can help reduce the pain.
But many other migraine sufferers require powerful prescription drugs that may come with side effects such as dizziness or nausea.
But what about cannabis? It’s long been considered an effective treatment for severe, chronic pain.
Can cannabis help people find relief from migraines?
Cannabis and Migraines: The Latest Research
In 2016, Leafly posted a story about a University of Colorado study which examined the effects of cannabis on migraine sufferers.
The results were encouraging to say the least.
The migraine study involved 121 people. Here’s what the researchers found:
- The average numbers of migraines dropped from a little over 10.4 per month to 4.6 per month
- 40% of of the participants claimed cannabis had a positive effect.
- 8% claimed that medical cannabis helped prevent their migraine headaches.
- 6% claimed that cannabis stopped their headaches.
- 85% reported that they suffered fewer migraines each month while using cannabis.
Not all these numbers were favorable towards cannabis. About 12% of participants said that cannabis didn’t help their migraines, and 2% experienced an increase in migraine headaches.
The key takeaway here is that your mileage may vary if you’re using cannabis to treat migraines. Still, these findings are promising enough that cannabis should definitely be considered a viable option for migraine sufferers.
