Meditation offers a number of benefits, including:

  • Relaxation of the mind
  • Improved focus
  • Improved health and sense of well-being
  • Boosted creativity
  • Spiritual enlightenment

For thousands of years, people have combined their meditation practice with cannabis use.

In ancient India, for example, tantric practitioners created drinks called bhang, which was a mixture of milk, cannabis, and various spices. They used this drink in conjunction with their spiritual practices in order to accelerate their enlightenment.

However, if enlightenment isn’t your cup of tea, and all you want to do is simply relax, you can still get a lot out of a cannabis meditation practice.

What Type of Cannabis Should You Use for Meditation?

That depends on why you’re meditating in the first place.

If you’re using meditation as a tool to boost your focus and creativity, try a sativa, which can enhance both of those abilities. Be careful not to use a strain that’s too stimulating, or you may find it difficult to sit or lie still long enough to meditate properly.

However, if your goal is simply to decompress and quiet your thoughts, we recommend a relaxing “light” indica, an indica-dominant hybrid, or a high-CBD strain. Avoid “heavy” indicas, or you might become so relaxed that you fall asleep!
