Anxiety disorders affects 40 million adult Americans – roughly 18.1% of the population. It is the most common form of mental illness in the U.S.

There are many types of anxiety disorders, ranging from general anxiety disorder to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Can cannabis be used to treat anxiety? The short answer is “yes – possibly.” Anecdotal evidence and some clinical trials suggest that cannabis can reduce the symptoms of anxiety.

However, patients should know that different cannabis strains and products have vastly different effects.

While some products can alleviate anxiety, other products, particularly those with high concentrations of THC, can make your anxiety worse.

Before turning to cannabis, you should consult a doctor and/or a licensed therapist to help you treat any anxiety symptoms you may be suffering from.

High-CBD Products

If you’re interested in using cannabis to treat your anxiety, we first recommend trying products that contain CBD, a cannabinoid that’s gained quite a reputation in recent years for its anti- anxiety properties.

The CBD:THC ratio of your product should be at least 1:1, meaning it contains equal parts of both THC and CBD.

Hybrid and Indica Strains

Certain hybrid and indica strains may be useful for treating anxiety as well. Ask your dispensary consultant for specific strain recommendations.
